Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the allocation of $27 million to support Chapman’s in building a new plant in Ontario, with a total cost of $200 million. The facility will span 175,000 square feet and create 200 additional jobs, bringing the company’s workforce to around 1,000 employees.
During a press conference in front of the company’s headquarters in Markdale, Ford took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of supporting Canadian businesses amid the ongoing trade war with the United States. However, he surprised the audience with a personal admission, saying that he eats a Chapman’s “Yukon” ice cream bar every night.
Ford pulled out a package of the product in front of the media and began eating it, saying: “If you haven’t tried this yet, it’s the best ever… caramel in the middle, ice cream, chocolate and peanuts… amazing!” He then continued answering reporters’ questions while eating it.
At the end of the press conference, Ford once again praised the company, which relies exclusively on Canadian milk and cream in all of its 200 products. He also made a point of fist-bumping its CEO, since his hand was messy with ice cream.
Ford said: “This is a true Canadian success story that supports workers on farms and in factories… we all need to support our local products.”
