For three days, from August 1st to 3rd, 2025, Riverside RD in Windsor, Ontario, transformed into a fabulous celebration of culture, faith, and music as the 11th Annual Chaldean Windsor Festival drew more than 12,000 attendees from across North America. Proudly hosted by the Holy Family Chaldean Catholic Church, this year’s festival was described by many as the “largest, strongest and most beautiful”.
Rooted in a tradition that dates back to 2004, the festival honors the rich cultural heritage and enduring faith of the Chaldean people, a community whose ancient roots stretch back thousands of years. But this year’s gathering was far more than a cultural showcase; it was a powerful affirmation of identity and unity in the diaspora.
The festival’s opening was marked by a deeply moving prayer led by Father Dheyaa Shammas, pastor of Holy Family Church, who spoke passionately about the strength of the Chaldean spirit: how it has adapted and flourished far from its ancestral lands without losing its faith. Adding a spiritual dimension, Chaldean Sisters from Michigan joined the opening ceremony, symbolizing the deep connections between Chaldean communities across borders.
Windsor’s mayor, Drew Dilkens, hailed the Chaldean community as a vital economic and social pillar of the city, while Member of Parliament Andrew Dowie praised the tireless volunteerism and dedication of the festival organizers.
Over the course of three nights, the festival stage came alive with a vibrant mix of traditional and contemporary performances. The event featured colorful displays by the Batnaya village troupe, and among the many talented artists were Talal Graish, Martin Yaqo, Stewart, along with others who have come from different areas such as San Diego, Toronto, Chicago and Michigan. Besides them, poets and instrumentalists added depth and emotion to the celebrations. Throughout the festival, Jamrah Restaurant and City Café served traditional Iraqi dishes and beverages, offering attendees a taste of authentic flavors that complemented the rich cultural experience.
More than a celebration, this festival stands as a living testament to the resilience and pride of the Chaldean people. Even thousands of miles from their historic homeland, their roots run deep through faith, music, and community.
As the festival closed, organizers and attendees alike expressed heartfelt gratitude and already look forward to next year’s gathering; ready to continue the powerful tradition of culture, connection, and celebration.
