Ontario is rewarding Windsor for it’s achievements. On August 12, 2025, Premier Doug Ford visited the city to announce a significant investment: $5.2 million through Ontario's Building Faster Fund. This funding recognizes Windsor's exceptional achievement in surpassing its 2024 housing targets, with 2,306 new homes started - an impressive 213% of the provincial goal.
The Building Faster Fund, part of a $1.2 billion provincial initiative, rewards municipalities that meet or exceed 80% of their housing targets. Windsor's success is a testament to effective collaboration, streamlined development processes, and a shared commitment to addressing the housing needs of its growing population.
At the announcement, Premier Ford commended Windsor's leadership in housing development, stating, "Mayor Dilkens and the City of Windsor have done an incredible job supporting new home construction and getting shovels in the ground."
Mayor Drew Dilkens echoed this sentiment, highlighting the city's proactive approach, including removing red tape and repurposing city-owned land to promote development. He emphasized that this funding will further support Windsor's commitment to building 13,000 new homes by 2031.
MPP Andrew Dowie, representing Windsor-Tecumseh, also played a crucial role in this achievement. His dedication to the community and advocacy for infrastructure improvements have been instrumental in securing this funding. In a recent social media post, Dowie expressed pride in joining Premier Ford, Minister Rob Flack, and Mayor Dilkens during the announcement.
This investment not only accelerates housing development but also strengthens Windsor's position as a leader in sustainable urban growth. As the city continues to expand, this partnership between municipal and provincial governments, alongside the efforts of local leaders like Dowie, ensures that Windsor remains a vibrant and thriving community for years to come.
