Non-essential travel restrictions at land and ferry border crossings with Canada have been extended until September 21 by the United States.
The US Department of Homeland Security stated in a tweet that the steps to fight the spread of COVID-19, including the delta variant, are still in place.
It says it will continue to ensure “the flow of essential trade and travel,” as well as consult with health and medical specialists and foreign partners to determine when things can safely return to normal.
The restrictions, which had been in effect since March 2020, were scheduled to expire on Saturday.
On August 9, Canada opened its border to Americans properly immunised.
In order to qualify, Americans must be provided with all needed doses of the COVID-19 vaccination approved by Health Canada 14 days before their arrival in Canada, and only US citizens and permanent residents residing and travelling from America are permitted.
Americans must file their travel information—including the documents of vaccination—within 72 hours before the arrival or by using the ArriveCAN application.
