WHEATLEY, ONTARIO — The Solicitor General of the Province of Ontario said that a three-person injury investigation was initiated following an explosion in Wheatley, Ont.
The explosion occurred at the intersection of Erie and Talbot Streets about 6 p.m. on Thursday, according to local authorities.
Two buildings in the downtown area have been severely damaged and houses and businesses have been evacuated in the area.
Three people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Officers said that they were called to the location at around 4:30 p.m. on a site alert by gas monitoring devices.
The first responders evacuated the buildings and evacuated a larger area before the explosion took place.
The explosion happened at a site where sulphide hydrogen gas was initially detected in June, which led to evacuation and state of emergency declarations.
In July, after verifying that hydrogen sulphide was again found on Erie 15 St. North, the town was issued a second state of emergency, and It remained in effect during this emergency.
