For the first time since March 2020, the federal government has eased border restrictions for fully vaccinated Americans, allowing for non-essential trips to Canada.
As of Monday, August 9, American citizens and permanent residents of the United States are permitted to enter Canada if they:
- Reside in and are travelling from the United States
- They can show documentation that they have been fully vaccinated for at least 14 days with any of the four Health Canada-approved vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson).
- They can show proof of a negative COVID-19 test result obtained prior to arrival.
All travellers arriving by plane after 12:01 a.m. are exempt from the 3-night hotel stopover requirement. On August 9, EDT.
