{"id":10601,"date":"2022-09-27T16:38:33","date_gmt":"2022-09-27T16:38:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambassadornews.org\/?p=10601"},"modified":"2022-09-27T16:38:36","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T16:38:36","slug":"live-updates-more-than-200000-homes-across-maritimes-still-without-power-after-fiona%ef%bf%bc%ef%bf%bc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambassadornews.org\/en\/live-updates-more-than-200000-homes-across-maritimes-still-without-power-after-fiona%ef%bf%bc%ef%bf%bc\/","title":{"rendered":"Live updates: More than 200,000 homes across Maritimes still without power after Fiona\ufffc\ufffc"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">More than 134,000 Nova Scotia Power customers in the dark as of Tuesday midday<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">More than 200,000 people across the Maritimes&nbsp;are still without power after post-tropical storm Fiona smashed through Atlantic Canada and parts of southeastern&nbsp;Quebec on the weekend&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/newfoundland-labrador\/blue-house-port-aux-basques-1.6596932\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sweeping away homes&nbsp;(new window)<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/nova-scotia\/n-s-farmers-reckon-with-storm-damage-from-fiona-s-winds-and-rain-1.6596536\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">knocking down trees&nbsp;(new window)<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/prince-edward-island\/pei-teacup-rock-gone-1.6595695\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">destroying landmarks.&nbsp;(new window)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">By Tuesday, power had&nbsp;been restored to most customers impacted by Fiona in Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador, but outages persist across the Maritimes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The Canadian Armed Forces responded to calls from Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador&nbsp;and P.E.I on Monday&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/fiona-military-help-japan-trip-cancelled-1.6594784\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to help clean up debris&nbsp;(new window)<\/a>&nbsp;and get trees off roads so power lines could be restored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Cleanup efforts continue around the clock and power companies are regularly updating their websites on total number of power outages remaining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Here is a look at provinces that are still dealing with significant power outages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nova Scotia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As of 12&nbsp;p.m. AT on Tuesday,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/outagemap.nspower.ca\/external\/default.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">134,135 Nova Scotia Power customers&nbsp;(new window)<\/a>&nbsp;did not have electricity. This is down from over 400,000 customers affected on Saturday. Nova Scotia Power has about 525,000 customers total.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Power has been restored for over 50 per cent of Nova Scotia Power customers but power restoration is different across the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Sydney has the highest number of power outages with approximately 41,500 customers affected. Truro is second with 23,200 customers affected. Stellarton has 19,000 customers affected and Dartmouth has approximately 17,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Halifax has approximately 5,000 customers affected. The western part of the province was the least affected with 23 power outages in Guysborough.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prince Edward Island<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As of 12&nbsp;p.m. AT on Tuesday, 71,456 Maritime Electric customers were&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maritimeelectric.com\/outages\/outage-map\/outage-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">affected by power outages.&nbsp;(new window)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Stratford, Cornwall, Kensington&nbsp;and Souris have the highest number of outages in the province with well over 1,000 customers affected in each region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Brunswick<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">There are&nbsp;3,592&nbsp;New Brunswick Power customers affected with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbpower.com\/Open\/Outages.aspx?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">approximately 3,300 outages in Moncton alone&nbsp;(new window)<\/a>&nbsp;on Tuesday morning.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 134,000 Nova
