The Fedak family is hoping one day there will be a cure for Crohn’s Disease — an inflammatory bowel disease that causes chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is an awful disease,\u201d says Jackie Fedak, whose daughter Jessie, 18, was diagnosed with Crohn’s two years ago<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWithin eight months she had seven surgeries (or) surgical procedures,\u201d says Fedak. \u201cShe’s had four drains in her abdomen for the abscesses, one in her back. She’s had blood clots, PICC line infections, she’s had bowel obstructions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result of all the family has been going through, they decided to organize a fundraiser, a \u201cshow and shine\u201d car show Sunday at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 594<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were overwhelmed by the turnout, as they had to move dozens of cars into an \u201coverflow\u201d lot next door<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou feel good when you’re doing something,\u201d says Fedak who tells CTV News they endured years of miss-diagnoses for why Jessie wasn\u2019t gaining weight<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHers was one of the most severe cases in London that they had seen in approximately eight years,\u201d doctors told Fedak. \u201cIt is devastating. It takes a lot out of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspite of the diagnosis, Fedak says her daughter has been able to graduate high school even though she took considerable time off when she was severely sick<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The family is also participating in the\u00a0Gutsy Walk in Windsor on June 4<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are hoping to raise money for the children’s camp, \u2018Camp Got to Go\u2019 and (the) Crohns and Colitis foundation. Just for research and hopefully maybe one day a cure,\u201d says Fedak\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
