{"id":21746,"date":"2023-09-15T11:27:08","date_gmt":"2023-09-15T11:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambassadornews.org\/?p=21746"},"modified":"2023-09-15T11:27:41","modified_gmt":"2023-09-15T11:27:41","slug":"dozens-gather-downtown-for-addiction-awareness-vigil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambassadornews.org\/en\/dozens-gather-downtown-for-addiction-awareness-vigil\/","title":{"rendered":"Dozens gather downtown for addiction awareness vigil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Lights of Hope&#8217; returned to Windsor\u2019s City Hall Square for the seventh year Thursday, honouring those who lost their battle with addiction while pairing those still fighting with supports<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Lisa Whitehead, who founded the event, said she was proud to see this year\u2019s turnout<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cI\u2019ve lost a lot of loved ones myself, so honouring them is very important to me,\u201d she said<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The first time the event was held, Whitehead said only about 20 people showed up<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cI feel very blessed. Very sentimental,\u201d Whitehead described<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Her inspiration for the annual vigil, she said, came from her own struggles with drug addiction, and that of her son<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cI lost everything,\u201d Whitehead said. \u201cThe horrors of addiction and the darkness that it takes you to, it\u2019s terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Whitehead has spun that horror into hope through the event \u2013 with a slate of community resources and outreach programs setting up tents for anyone who knows someone struggling, or who\u2019s struggling themselves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This was the last year Whitehead herself will head the vigil, handing the reins to Ashley Shepley, with Windsor\u2019s Community Connections \u2013 a grassroots organization aiming to spread the word about local outreach programs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cIf we work together, we\u2019re going to make a bigger difference,\u201d Shepley said<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lights of Hope&#8217;
