{"id":30278,"date":"2024-10-12T17:21:59","date_gmt":"2024-10-12T17:21:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambassadornews.org\/?p=30278"},"modified":"2024-10-12T17:22:01","modified_gmt":"2024-10-12T17:22:01","slug":"windsor-vegan-group-gives-away-100-meat-free-turkeys-for-thanksgiving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambassadornews.org\/en\/windsor-vegan-group-gives-away-100-meat-free-turkeys-for-thanksgiving\/","title":{"rendered":"Windsor vegan group gives away 100 meat-free \u2018turkeys\u2019 for Thanksgiving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">A Windsor-based group has teamed up with PETA to encourage Windsor residents to consider vegan options this Thanksgiving<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The group participated in PETA\u2019s initiative to distribute free vegan roasts in several cities across North America, including Windsor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cWe host monthly vegan potlucks in our community and do vegan outreach events like this,\u201d said Brenda LaFleshe, founder of The Sweet Life of Vegan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">LaFleshe, who turned vegan more than 20 years ago, said the initiative aims to offer a \u201cmore compassionate\u201d alternative to traditional, meat-based holiday meals<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cI became vegetarian when I was 14 years old,\u201d she said, adding she later made the transition to a fully vegan diet after learning more about the dairy and egg industries<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">She also pointed to the environmental impacts of animal agriculture, saying, \u201ceating animals causes the most pollution\u201d and contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and habitat loss<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cNo animal wants to die, and it\u2019s unnecessary for us to eat them.
