{"id":31530,"date":"2024-12-05T14:50:37","date_gmt":"2024-12-05T14:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambassadornews.org\/?p=31530"},"modified":"2024-12-05T14:50:41","modified_gmt":"2024-12-05T14:50:41","slug":"non-alcoholic-beer-sales-in-ontario-up-69-per-cent-in-2024-lcbo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambassadornews.org\/en\/non-alcoholic-beer-sales-in-ontario-up-69-per-cent-in-2024-lcbo\/","title":{"rendered":"Non-alcoholic beer sales in Ontario up 69 per cent in 2024: LCBO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The LCBO has released its 2024 sales highlights and one type of product saw \u201cstandout\u201d growth last year, despite containing little to no alcohol at all<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cDe-alcoholic\u201d beer saw a 69 per cent surge in sales, driven by offerings like Guinness 0, Bellwoods Brewery\u2019s Jelly King Non-Alcoholic Sour, and Muskoka Brewery\u2019s Veer Lager with Lime, the LCBO said, noting that the data was pulled from sales between Nov. 4, 2023, and Nov. 9, 2024<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Overall, products with no alcohol sold by the LCBO saw 73 per cent growth year-over-year. Since 2022, sales of those products have grown by 189 per cent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">According to the LCBO\u2019s latest quarterly report, which reported total sales of $2.2 billion between June and October, non-alcoholic beers made up 0.5 per cent of net beer sales<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">Demand for smaller format wines, spirits grows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Buying behaviors towards wines and spirits also changed in the last year, seeing customers shifting towards smaller format options instead of full-size bottles<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The LCBO said because of the \u201cgrowing demand\u201d for those products, it now offers more than 40 wine products packaged in 375 ml containers and 200 spirits in containers of 375 ml or less<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">Wine preferences changing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Beyond bottle size, wine drinkers are also shifting away from heavier, full-body styles and leaning towards \u201cfresher\u201d types of vino, including lighter reds, and whites like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Icewine continued to be a popular choice in 2024, the LCBO said, noting that local Ontario-made products saw an upward trend of seven per cent last year. Since 2022, the dessert wine\u2019s popularity has grown by 29 per cent<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Meanwhile, so called \u201cvalue priced\u201d reds and whites are attracting customers who are exploring options offering quality and affordability, the LCBO said<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">Ready-to-Drink cocktails see \u2018fastest\u2019 growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Ready-to-Drink products, or RTDs, remained a popular choice in 2024, but pre-mixed cocktails stood out as the \u201cfastest growing segment\u201d at 17 per cent, the LCBO said<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The last quarterly report shows seltzers and soda-style coolers made up 37 per cent of all sales, while traditional coolers and cocktail coolers accounted for 22 and 14 per cent, respectively<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The pre-mixed drinks were a sticking point during the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/toronto.ctvnews.ca\/alcohol-expansion-plans-accelerated-in-ontario-as-lcbo-strike-continues-1.6964239\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">17-day LCBO strike in the summer(opens in a new tab)<\/a>, when the union representing more than 9,000 of the Crown corporation\u2019s workers tried, but failed, to keep them out of convenience stores and gas stations as part of the provincial sales expansion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Now,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/toronto.ctvnews.ca\/ontario-corner-stores-allowed-to-sell-alcohol-as-of-today-1.7026009\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thousands of corner stores\u00a0(opens in a new tab)<\/a>across the province can sell the popular drinks, as well as beer, wine, and cider<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\">Tequila, American whiskey popularity grows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Demand for tequila grew by six per cent in 2024, which the LCBO said was somewhat lower than the 16 per cent increase seen in 2023<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">American whiskey also saw increased interest to the tune of seven per cent, fueled by limited releases in the last 12 months<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Asian spirits, including soju and whiskies, also saw growth year-over-year<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The LCBO said that the 2024 sales data may be understated due to the summer strike<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The LCBO has released its 2024 sales highlights and one type of product saw \u201cstandout\u201d growth last year, despite containing little to no alcohol at all \u201cDe-alcoholic\u201d beer saw a 69 per cent surge in sales, driven by offerings like Guinness 0, Bellwoods Brewery\u2019s Jelly King Non-Alcoholic Sour, and Muskoka Brewery\u2019s Veer Lager with Lime, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":31531,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"jnews-multi-image_gallery":[],"jnews_single_post":{"format":"standard"},"jnews_primary_category":[],"jnews_social_meta":[],"jnews_override_counter":[],"jnews_post_split":[],"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[48],"tags":[],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.5 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Non-alcoholic beer sales in Ontario up 69 per cent in 2024: LCBO &#8211;
