She was accompanied by four male musicians<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Ahmadi had posted her concert on YouTube the day before, saying: \u201cI am Parastoo, a girl who wants to sing for the people I love. This is a right I could not ignore; singing for the land I love passionately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The online concert has been viewed more than 1.4 million times<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Panahipour told The Associated Press: \u201cUnfortunately, we do not know the charges against Ms. Ahmadi, who arrested her, or her place of detention, but we will follow up on the matter through legal authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">He also said two musicians in Ahmadi&#8217;s band \u2014 Soheil Faghih Nasiri and Ehsan Beiraghdar \u2014 were arrested in Tehran on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=oYcaDHEnhbU%3Fsi%3DQJviPF1U-BQRgDLq\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Following the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, women were banned at first from singing altogether, then from singing or dancin solo before mixed-gender audiences. Female vocalists could perform for male audiences only as a part of a chorus. But they are allowed to sing in a hall for female-only audiences<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Also based on Iranian and Islamic law, women are not allowed to appear without a hijab in front of men who are not related<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In Iran, the hijab \u2014 and the all-encompassing black chador worn by some \u2014 has long been a political symbol as well, particularly after becoming mandatory in the years following the 1979 Islamic Revolution. For observant Muslim women, the head covering is a sign of piety before God and modesty in front of men outside their families<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">There were protests across Iran in 2022 following the death of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ctvnews.ca\/world\/women-in-iran-are-going-without-hijabs-as-the-2nd-anniversary-of-mahsa-amini-s-death-approaches-1.7038105\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mahsa Amini(opens in a new tab)<\/a>, 22, after her arrest by the country\u2019s morality police over allegedly not wearing her hijab.
