Minister of Migration and Displacement, Ms. Evan Faiq Jabro, announced the launch of the first national plan to promote safe, organized, and regular migration for the years 2025–2030. The announcement was made during a conference held in the capital, Baghdad, attended by the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), Mr. Claudio Cordone, the Head of the International Organization for Migration mission, Mr. Giorgi Gigauri, the Acting Head of the United States mission, Mr. Steven Fagen, along with a number of political, security, and academic figures, ambassadors, and representatives of international and civil organizations.
In her speech at the conference, the Minister stated, “The plan reflects Iraq’s determination to address migration issues along two parallel tracks: on one hand, it aims to tackle irregular migration in a way that ensures rights and enhances the country’s positive image abroad; on the other hand, it seeks to regulate the migration of foreigners to Iraq according to clear legal frameworks.”
She added, “Through this plan, the government has established foundations and mechanisms that strengthen safe migration policies and ensure the sustainable integration of returnees and migrants into society, achieving a balance between the protection of human rights and the requirements of national security and development, in line with Iraq’s international commitments.”
Ms. Jabro also announced, “The Ministry of Migration and Displacement has achieved first place in implementing the 2025 government program and first place in integrity and anti-corruption. This is an honorable achievement that reflects the ministry’s commitment to responsibility and diligent work in service of our beloved people.”
