Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Facebook and Instagram accounts can now be verified with a blue badge for some European countries, and will roll out to other countries soon
Users will need to subscribe monthly and verify their government-issued ID to authenticate their accounts. This is great news for users who will benefit from increased security on the platforms
According to a Facebook Post by Syrian engineer Baraa Habab, who works with Facebook’s global development team, posted
“A new request called “Meta Verified” has been introduced this week. This feature enables users to verify and authenticate their Facebook and Instagram accounts using their government-issued ID by subscribing monthly”
The subscription cost starts at $11.99 for web platforms and $14.99 for mobile platforms. This feature has already been implemented in New Zealand and some European countries, and will soon be available in other countries
Baraa Habab added; that the Conditions for verifying accounts through monthly subscription include using a real name, profile picture, accurate personal information (such as birthdate), and having an active account
