The Canadian government is set to issue payments under several federal benefit and assistance programs in September 2026, including the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB), Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), the Allowance and Allowance for the Survivor, and Employment Insurance (EI).

Some payment amounts have been updated following inflation-related increases introduced during 2026.

Canada Disability Benefit (CDB)

The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) provides monthly financial support to eligible individuals aged 18 to 64 who meet the program requirements and have an approved Disability Tax Credit certificate.

Following a 2.1% increase in July 2026, the maximum benefit amount rose to C$204.20 per month.

The September payment is scheduled for September 17, 2026. Eligible individuals must apply separately for the benefit, as having an approved Disability Tax Credit does not automatically enrol someone in the CDB program.

Canada Pension Plan (CPP)

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) provides monthly retirement income, as well as disability, survivor and children’s benefits for eligible recipients.

The maximum CPP retirement pension for someone starting their pension at age 65 in 2026 is approximately C$1,507.65 per month. The actual amount varies depending on an individual’s contribution history, earnings and the age at which they begin receiving the pension.

The September CPP payment is scheduled for September 25, 2026. CPP retirement benefits can generally begin as early as age 60, although starting early results in a permanent reduction. Delaying the pension until age 70 increases the monthly payment.

Old Age Security (OAS)

The Old Age Security (OAS) pension is available to people aged 65 and older, subject to Canadian residency requirements. Eligibility is not directly based on employment history or CPP contributions.

For the July-to-September 2026 payment period, the maximum monthly OAS amounts are:

  • C$751.97 for individuals aged 65 to 74.
  • C$827.17 for individuals aged 75 and older.

The September OAS payment is scheduled for September 25, 2026, alongside CPP. Higher-income recipients may be subject to the OAS recovery tax, commonly known as the OAS clawback, which can reduce the amount they receive.

Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)

The Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) provides additional financial support to certain low-income seniors who receive OAS.

For the July-to-September 2026 period, the maximum monthly GIS payment is approximately C$1,123.17 for a single, widowed or divorced recipient. Actual amounts vary depending on marital status and household income.

The September GIS payment is scheduled for September 25, 2026.

Eligibility is generally reassessed annually based on income, making it important for recipients to file their income tax returns on time to maintain their benefits.

Employment Insurance (EI)

Employment Insurance (EI) provides temporary financial assistance to eligible people who lose their jobs. It also includes special benefits for situations such as illness, pregnancy, parental leave and caring for children or family members.

The maximum EI benefit in 2026 is approximately C$729 per week, while regular EI benefits are generally calculated at 55% of a person’s average insurable weekly earnings, subject to the applicable maximum.

There is no single September payment date for all EI recipients. Payment dates depend on each recipient’s individual reporting schedule. Once a report is processed, payments generally arrive within several business days when direct deposit is used.

Main Benefit Payment Dates for September 2026

  • September 17: Canada Disability Benefit (CDB)
  • September 25: CPP, OAS, GIS, Allowance and Allowance for the Survivor
  • EI: According to each recipient’s individual payment and reporting schedule

CPP, OAS, GIS and related allowances will continue to be paid in the following months. The December 2026 payment is scheduled for December 22, which is relatively early compared with the next payment in January.

Recipients are encouraged to review their benefit information and payment dates through My Service Canada Account and ensure that their personal and banking information is up to date, particularly after any changes.

Eligibility requirements vary significantly between programs. Some benefits are based primarily on age and residency, while others depend on income, employment history or contributions. Receiving one government benefit does not automatically mean a person qualifies for all other programs.
