Lake Superior, shared by Canada and the United States, has been ranked among the clearest lakes in the world, placing 10th in a new ranking by Travel + Leisure magazine.
Water visibility in some areas of the lake can reach approximately 15 metres, highlighting the exceptional clarity of its waters. Covering about 82,100 square kilometres, Lake Superior is the largest of the Great Lakes.
The Canadian province of Ontario borders the lake to the north and east. Major Canadian cities along its shores include Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.
It is worth noting that lake-water clarity rankings are not based on a single global standard. Results can vary depending on location, weather and season, and are based on available scientific data and long-term monitoring.
