موجة استقالات تعيد رسم خريطة البرلمان الكندي قبل انطلاق جلساته الخريفية. استقالت النائبة المحافظة كاثاي واغانتال رسمياً من مجلس العموم الكندي، لتصبح النائبة العاشرة التي تغادر البرلمان خلال عام 2026، في تطور يعكس حجم التغييرات المتسارعة في تركيبته.
وكانت واغانتال قد أعلنت في يونيو الماضي أنها ستستقيل مع نهاية أغسطس، من دون الكشف عن أسباب القرار، بعدما كانت تخطط في الأصل لاستكمال ولايتها. وقد مثّلت دائرة يوركتون–ميلفيل في ساسكاتشوان منذ عام 2015.
Her resignation follows the departures of former Liberal cabinet minister Steven Guilbeault and former New Democratic Party MP Alexandre Boulerice from the House of Commons. Conservative MP Larry Brock of Ontario is also expected to resign later this month.
The House of Commons is scheduled to resume sitting on September 21, following recent federal by-elections that saw three new Liberal MPs elected to fill seats left vacant by the resignations of former MPs.
The series of departures is ushering in a new period of change within Canada’s Parliament as MPs prepare to return for the fall sitting.
