Preliminary results from the Ontario by-elections show the Progressive Conservatives and the New Democratic Party (NDP) retaining two of the three seats up for election.
Progressive Conservative candidate Jeff Beaty won the seat in Hamilton East–Stoney Creek, while NDP candidate Fatima Shaban won Scarborough Southwest.
In York–Simcoe, Progressive Conservative candidate Susan Lahaie holds a significant lead as vote counting continues.
The three by-elections were held on September 3 after the seats became vacant following the resignations of the previous MPPs.
Healthcare, Education and Affordability
Healthcare, education and the rising cost of living were among the key issues discussed by candidates during the campaigns.
Voters also raised concerns about the potential impact of the Canada–U.S. trade war on Ontario’s economy and jobs.
The Progressive Conservative Party later announced the victories of Jeff Beaty in Hamilton East–Stoney Creek and Susan Lahaie in York–Simcoe.
