Ontario is bracing for a period of severe weather as September begins, with forecasts calling for strong thunderstorms that could be among the most intense of the year.
The storms are expected to begin Tuesday afternoon, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and large hail, with the possibility of isolated tornadoes. The risk of severe storms is expected to increase on Wednesday as a cold front moves into southern and eastern Ontario, while the Greater Toronto Area and the Highway 401 corridor could see periods of heavy rain and strong storms throughout the day.
Forecasts indicate that the humidex could reach around 37°C on Wednesday before temperatures drop to about 25°C on Thursday. Conditions are expected to improve starting Friday, with sunny weather and daytime temperatures ranging between 23°C and 25°C over the weekend.
Despite the temporary improvement, there remains a chance of rain and thunderstorms as Labour Day approaches, accompanied by another rise in humidity levels.
